On 23 October 2002, the Cabinet approved the proposed establishment of the Ex-Police Personnel Affairs Division under the Ministry of Interior. This division began operation on 2 May 2003 with a staff of 16. On 3 November 2007, the Public Service Department approved the restructuring of the ministry by setting up the Prisons Unit under this division. The name of the division was later changed to the Ex-Police and Prison Personnel Affairs Division. Under Establishment Warrant no K84 dated 11 July 2008, the post of grade KX44 prison superintendent was created. As of December 2009, this division had 18 posts.
