FOR THE CALL BY H.E. DR. MAKIO MIYAGAWA, EXTRAORDINARY AND PLENIPOTENTIARY OF JAPAN TO MALAYSIA

H.E. Dr Makio Miyagawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia will call on Hon. Minister of Home Affairs, DatoÔÇÖ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on 27 January 2015 at the latterÔÇÖs office.The purpose of the call is to extend a formal invitation forHon.DatoÔÇÖ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to visit Japan.

At present, Malaysia and Japan do not have any bilateral Agreement or MOU on security cooperation. Nevertheless, Malaysia and Japan sharewith the global community, several common security concerns especially on terrorism and cyber crime.JapanÔÇÖs engagement with ASEAN community has been expanding in all areas. Using the platform of ASEAN, Malaysia hosted the 2nd ASEAN-Japan Dialogue on Counter Terrorism from 10-11 September 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia will once again host the 10th Dialogue tentatively in December 2015 following the 9th Dialogue which was hosted by Singapore in 2014.

Under this dialogue, MalaysiaÔÇÖs proposal to host a Seminar on ASEAN Piracy, Sea Robbery and Maritime Terrorism from 24 to 26 February 2015 in Kuala Lumpur was endorsed during the 8th ASEAN-Japan Dialogue on Counter Terrorism which was held in Bangkok from 28 May to 1 June 2014. The Seminar will be co-hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs Malaysia (MOHA) and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) with the funding of USD81,000 from the Japan-ASEAN Integrated Fund.

Additionally, Malaysia will also host the 2nd ASEAN-Japan Cyber Crime Dialogue back-to-back with ASEAN-Japan Dialogue on Counter Terrorism tentatively in December 2015 following the 1st Dialogue hosted by Singapore in 2014.
